LVIA is looking for an Operating Officer for the project called “Tunza Majingira Tumia Jiko Banifu” – “Improve the Environment, use improved cookstoves”  within the "Green Tanzania Cooksve Program"

Project Location: Kongwa District in Dodoma Region

Office Location: Kongwa District in Dodoma Region (P.O.BOX 160, Kongwa)


Start date: December 2024, 12 month contract, renewable

Job Type: Full time

Salary: Tsh 400,000 – 500,000 depending on the experience and education level of the selected candidate.


Who are we?

Lay Volunteers International Association (LVIA) is an Italian NGO working in ten African countries including Tanzania. The headquarters is in Cuneo, Italy while the Tanzania offices are in Kongwa District in Dodoma Region (P.O.BOX 160, Kongwa). lVIA has been working in Tanzania for more than 30 years in supporting community development, especially in Agriculture, Health, and improving access to tap water and Sanitation.


The project

lVIA is looking for a Mwende Officer to be employed in the framework of the project "Take care of the environment, use a Banifu stove" - ​​"Improve the environment, use improved stoves" organized and run by OffgridSun within the "Green Tanzania Cookstove Program".


The project aims to reduce dependence on traditional cooking methods in Kongwa District by distributing 26,000 improved stoves in 30 villages. These stoves, which are more efficient and emit less smoke, will reduce the use of wood and charcoal by up to 70%, reduce deforestation, reduce emissions ofcarbon, and reduce respiratory health risks. Additional goals include promoting environmental conservation through tree planting and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as reducing poverty, improving health, gender equality, sustainable economic growth and protection of environment.



This goal can be achieved through the following expected results: Target households are provided with improved stoves

Distribution of 26,000 improved cooking stoves and 52,000 tree plants within local communities.

organizing events to raise awareness about environmental protection and the development of improved stoves in target villages

Targeted kitchens are functional and used by target groups.


Roles and responsibilities;

Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and Country Representative, the Chief Officer will be responsible for the following duties:


WORK:

Assist the Project Coordinator in the implementation of the project, facilitate at the local level the implementation of project activities.


Facilitate communication with the target audience (individuals or groups), as well as the organization of training and campaigns in collaboration with partners and Partners.


Identify key representatives for each village, establish and maintain strong relationships with them to ensure the successful implementation of the entire project.


Cooperate with government authorities and project partners.


Participate in training and campaigns organized by the project.


Conducting surveys, focus groups, and interviews to collect data.


Ensure accuracy and reliability of data and prepare regular reports.


Participate in data system training and be proficient in uploading data efficiently.


Coordinate the distribution of project materials and resources.


Conduct regular visits to monitor project progress, assess impact, and identify areas for improvement.


Implement awareness campaigns directly and conduct awareness activities in the community.


Address challenges and conflicts in the field, provide practical solutions to ensure the continuation of the project.


Draft work plan weekly for review and approval by the Project Coordinator or Project Assistant.


Perform any other duties as required by the Project Coordinator or Project Assistant.

Requirements

IMPORTANT:

The ideal candidate should have a university degree or diploma in a relevant field such as:


✓ Rural community development


✓ Monitoring and evaluation


Data collection


Environmental studies


While a degree in one of these specific fields is preferred, it is important to note that similar qualifications or experience in related areas may also be considered. This flexibility allows for a large pool of potential candidates with different backgrounds and skill sets.


And also a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience as a Proficiency Officer in English and proven ability to write official reports and documents in English and Kiswahili;


Proficiency in using smartphones and apps.


Proficient knowledge and use of data collection systems or any data collection tool


Be a citizen of Tanzania, come from Kongwa District or have worked there for several years and have a deep understanding of the environment of Kongwa District.
